Bears are intelligent animals and people have been using them for years. Remember, bears can become brutal killers, but if trained properly they can become a genuine friend of yours. Many people earn their living by using them to force them to do tricks. On the whole, they are very cuddly animals as they are furry and strong. Here we shall discuss some of their traits which many people do not know.
They Can Employ Tools
Bears are in fact rather smart animals. They are as intelligent as the apes. They are much cleverer than you can imagine. An Alaskan brown bear was seen using tools and was holding a rock in its paw. This proves that they are able to use tools. The dolphins, elephants, whales and ravens are all very clever animals.
In many Eastern Asian countries the bile from the gallbladder of the bears is used to cure many diseases including cancer. It has healing properties. Hence, it is used in making many food products and shower gels. In these countries you will find bear farming. Many black bears are kept in cages and their bile from their gallbladders is collected regularly.
Bear Brain Surgery
Bears suffer from similar health problems like humans. One such illness is hydrocephalus where fluid deposits in the head, putting force on the brain. If this disease is not treated then it may cause death. Its pain is very distressing. Recent technology has provided solution to cure this disease for both humans and bears. A black female bear in Laos was suffering from this disease and was operated successfully. She has recovered fully and has become active again.
The Largest Bear
It is a common belief that polar bears are the largest bears, weighing about 1000 kg and 8 feet tall. Nevertheless, the Kodiak bears are 10 feet tall and weigh about 1134 kg. Normally, the polar bears are larger.
Normally, small mammals are capable to hibernate, but nobody can think of a large animal like a bear can do this. In 2011, researchers observed 5 bears lying dormant in a forbidden surrounding. They observed that the bears were breathing slowly. They were hibernating and after the hibernation they became normal with a lower metabolism rate.
In confinement, bears can be alive for about 30 years and the in the wild they live even less. You can count a bear’s age from their tooth roots which forms annual rings exactly like the trees.
Bears are burly and clumsy animals but they can move very fast. Grizzly and brown bears can run 30 miles per hour.
Attacks on Humans
Normally, they do not attack humans. They try their utmost to avoid humans; they generally try to scare us so that we leave their territory. Normally do not attack human being, but if provoked then they may attack a human because they are afraid of people. They do not like to eat human meat.
